Wee Dolly

My daughter has a strong affinity for babies lately, and I thought I’d make her a soft lil baby that she could carry around with her.  I made it fairly simple too, no facial features but I did make some rosy cheeks with one of Roxy’s red crayons (works well!) but feel free to embroider a face or whatever you like.

G hook

F hook

E hook

WW yarn-

MC-main color

CC-contrasting color

SC-skin color

White (for bottle)

 

Body:

With MC, 8 sc into magic loop. Pull end tight to close.

Round 1: 2 sc in each st around. 16 sts

Round 2: [1 sc in first st, 2 sc in next st] around. 24 sts

Round 3: sc around.

Round 4: [sc in first 4 sts, sc2tog] around. 20 sts

Rounds 5-6: switch to CC, sc around.

Rounds 7-8: switch to MC, sc around.

Round 9: switch to CC, sc around

Rounds 10-11: switch to MC, sc around.

Round 12: [sc in first 3 sts, sc2tog] around. 16 sts

Round 13: [sc in first 2 sts, sc2tog] around. 12 sts

Break yarn, leaving tail for sewing. Sl st into next st and pull tail up thru loop on hook, securing tail.

Stuff body.

Head:

With SC, 6 sc into magic loop. Pull end to close.

Round 1: 2 sc in each st around. 12 sts

Round 2: [sc in first st, 2 sc in next st] around. 18 sts

Rounds 3-6: sc around.

Round 7: [sc in first 4 sts, sc2tog] around. 15 sts

Round 8: [sc in first 3 sts, sc2tog] around. 12 sts

Break yarn, sl st in next st and pull thru loop on hook to secure.

Stuff head, then thread body tail onto hook, line up 12 sts of body to 12 sts of head and sew together.

Arms (make 2):

With MC and E hook, 6 sc in magic loop.

Round 1: [sc in first st, 2 sc in next st] around. 9 sts

Rounds 2-5: sc around.

Break yarn, leaving tail for sewing. Sl st in next st and pull thru loop on hook securing tail. Sew onto body. (I didn’t stuff my arms)

Hat:

With F hook and MC, 8 sc into magic loop.

Round 1: 2 sc in each st around. 16 sts

Round 2: [sc in first st, 2 sc in next st] around. 24 sts

Round 3: [sc in first 5 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. 28 sts

Rounds 4-5: sc around.

Round 6: switch to CC, sc around.

Round 7: sl st around.

Break yarn, weave in ends.

Bottle:

With E hook and white, 6 sc into magic loop.

Round 1:[sc in first st, 2 sc in next st] around. 9 sts

Rounds 2-7: sc around.

Stuff bottle at this point.

Round 8: Switch to SC, [sc in first 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] in back loops only around.12 sts

Round 9: sc around.

Round 10: [sc in first st, sc2tog in next st] around. 8 sts

Round 11: [sc in first st, sc2tog in next st] twice, sc in last 2 sts. 5 sts

Stuff top of bottle.

Rounds 12-13: sc around.

Break yarn leaving tail. Put onto needle and going thru front loops only, pull tightly to close up top.

Cocoon:

With G hook and MC, ch 16.in

Round 1: Turn, 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc to last ch, 5 dc in last st, dc down other side of ch to last, 2 dc in last ch. Join to top of turning ch 2. 33 sts

Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 15 sts, 5 dc in next st, dc in next 14 sts, 2 dc in last st. Join to top of ch 2. 38 sts

Round 3: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 18 sts, 5 dc in next st, dc in next 17 sts, 2 dc in last st. 44 sts

Round 4: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 21 sts, 5 dc in next st, dc in next 20 sts, 2 dc in last st. 50 sts

Rounds 5-6 : dc around.

Switch to F hook, sl st around. Break yarn, fasten off.

With F hook and CC, join yarn to side and sc 5 sts.

Ch 1, turn. Sc across.

Repeat 12 more times. Break yarn leaving a tail. Sew to opposite side.

  2. Thanks for sharing this lovely pattern. It is already one of my favourite patterns. Have made 5 wee babies and now I am looking foreward to let them go for adoption.

  3. Thanks for this! I had made my granddaughter a purse/bassinet – used to make them for my daughters & their friends and buy a little doll at the dime store, but discovered I can no longer find them. Your wee doll saved the day as it is perfect in the bassinet.

  4. Thank you for posting this. I have a friend who recently lost a pregnancy, and I plan on making one of your Wee Babies as a way to honor that baby.

    • My heart goes out to her, I am glad she has a good friend by her side.
